Thomas Tom M. Kroko
GATX retiree served in church, in Army with Elvis
Thomas Tom M. Kroko, Brookfield Township, died peacefully at 5 p.m. June 11,
2011, at home after a brief illness with his wife of 44 years at his side. He was 69. Mr. Kroko was born Dec. 23, 1941, in Sharon, a son of John and Mary (Hrabosky) Kroko. Tom worked at General American Transportation Corp. in
Masury, the former Yobe Electric and then retired from Winner International
in the maintenance department. He graduated from Brookfield High School in 1959. Tom was a member of St. Johns Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church, Sharon,
where he was a past board member and presently on the church building committee. Mr. Kroko was an Army veteran and served from 1959 to 1962 in Germany. Elvis Presley served with Tom and his tank unit was part of the movie G.I. Blues. He was always so excited to go visit his family in Georgia.
He is survived by his wife, Melinda (Sonk) Kroko, whom he married Oct. 8,1966, at home; his daughter, Marlene Lucas and her husband David and their children
Megan and Karlie, of whom he was so proud, Georgia; his son Tom Kroko and his wife Lori and her daughter Brittany and her grandchildren Anastasia and Bethany, all Georgia; his sister Irene Chestnut and her husband Albert, who was
like a brother, Hubbard; his brother Bob Kroko and his wife Betty, Sharon; and
many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his mother-and father-in-law, Martin and Hilda Sonk. Memorial contributions
can be made to the St. Johns Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church building
Calling hours: 10 a.m. to time of service Wednesday (6-15-11) in St.
Johns Orthodox Cemetery Chapel, Hermitage.
Service: Funeral service at 11a.m. Wednesday in the chapel with the Rev. Protopresbyter Michael Polanichka officiating. Military honors by Wheatland American Legion.
Burial: St. Johns Orthodox Cemetery, Hermitage. Arrangements by JOHN FLYNN
