Charles ‘Chuck’ Edward Bowman
WE retiree was member of First Baptist in Sharon

A funeral service will be held today for Charles “Chuck” Edward Bowman of
Hermitage. He passed away at 3:10 p.m. Sunday (2-7-10) in his residence surrounded by his family. He was 89. Mr. Bowman was born March l, 1920, in Mercer to Charles Edwin and Hazel Dell Michaels Bowman. He was a 1940 alumnus of Sharon High School. He served his country in World War II as an armorer with the Eighth Air Force, stationed in England with the rank of corporal. On June 14, 1941, he married the former Lillian Mary Kloss of Hickory, who survives at home. Mr. Bowman retired in 1983 from the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., after a 40-year career as a lathe operator and industrial engineer. As an active member of First Baptist Church in Sharon, he served as a member of the board of trustees, a Sunday school superintendent and on the property committee. He chaired the last pulpit
committee and was proud of bringing the Rev. John M. Trojak to First Baptist Church and laboring to prepare the parsonage for his arrival. Chuck loved singing in the choir, playing guitar and performing solos and duets. Chuck was a member of the American Legion; Veterans of Foreign Wars Shenango Valley Post 1338, Sharon; and Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 810, Hermitage. He enjoyed woodworking, refinishing furniture and going to flea markets. Family and
friends treasure the many examples of his beautiful craftsmanship in their homes. He enjoyed sharing stories about people and history of Mercer County and the Shenango Valley. Chuck and Lil enjoyed square dancing and club activities for many years as members of the Shenango Valley Sashayers. He especially enjoyed visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, surviving are: two sons, Charles E. Bowman Jr. and his wife Katherine, Warren, Ohio; and Terrence L. Bowman and his wife Christine, Sharon; five grandchildren, Julie Wilson and her husband Christopher, Liberty Township, Trumbull County; Chad Bowman and his wife Lana, Canfield, Ohio; Joseph Bowman and his wife Lisa, Bangkok, Thailand; Leah Ogonek and her husband Daniel, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; and Virginia Bowman and her husband Kurtis Liston, Akron,Ohio; and five great-grandchildren, Alyssa Wilson, Evan Wilson, Jakob Bowman, Alexander Bowman and Soren Liston. He also leaves his brother, William “Bill” Bowman, Mercer. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ted Bowman; and his sisters, Geraldine Bonaquist and Helen Ray.
