Michael A. ‘Iceberg’ Bartholomew
Sharon man owned ex-Wheatland business

Michael A. “Iceberg” Bartholomew, 177 Strawbridge Ave., Sharon,
Passed away at 3:24 a.m. Monday (2-1-10) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell,
after an extended illness. He was 68.
Mr. Bartholomew was born Aug. 7, 1941, in Sharon to Michael and
Mary Russ Bartholomew. Michael graduated in 1959 from
Brookfield High School, then earned an associate’s degree in
business from the Shenango campus of Penn State University, Sharon.
He was owner and operator for more than 15 years of the
former The Talk Shoppe of Wheatland. During his lifetime,
Michael had many occupations, but after high school
he worked for the former Valley View Department store,
Brookfield, where he met his wife. Michael was an avid fisherman
and was known as “Papa Mike” by his grandchildren.
His CB name was “Iceberg.” His wife, the former Patricia
Gates, whom he married Feb. 11, 1961, in the former
St. Michael’s Church in Farrell, survives in Sharon.
Also surviving are: two daughters, Sherry Mihalson
and her husband Kevin, Hermitage; and Michele
Bartholomew, Sharon; a sister, Marilyn Pullano, Rhode Island;
two brothers, Robert Bartholomew, Lowellville,
Ohio; and Ronald Bartholomew, Bristolville, Ohio; and
four grandchildren, Kevin Michael Mihalson, Tyler Mihalson,
Mackenzie Mihalson and Michael Songer.
Michael also leaves his little buddy, Teddy, a toy poodle.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
