Forrest Daniel ‘Dan’ Gregg
Butcher, farmer was
corporal in Korean War

A memorial service will be held Saturday
for Forrest Daniel “Dan” Gregg of Springfield Township. He
went to be with the Lord at 1:45 p.m. Sunday (10-18-09) in
Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center, with his family at
his bedside after a long battle with COPD. He was 76.
Mr. Gregg was born Aug. 26, 1933, at the original Gregg
farm in Grove City, to Clifford E. and Anna May Winger Gregg.
Mr. Gregg attended Mercer Area High School until he entered
the Marine Corps during the Korean conflict theater.
He gained the rank of corporal in May 1956.
After leaving the Marine Corps, he was a butcher and
farm operator at the George Junior Republic farm. Later
employed by the former LTV Steel in Warren, Ohio, until its
seamless mill closed, he began working for the former
WCI Steel in Warren, from which he retired in 1997.
Forrest was a past member of Loyal Order of the Moose
Lodge 1637 and American Legion Post 159, both Mercer;
and Veterans of Foreign Wars Stanley Snyder Post 7465,
Springfield Township. Mr. Gregg is survived by a
son, Clifford R. Gregg and his wife Karsen, West Middlesex;
and three daughters, Sandra M. Landon and her husband
Michael, Sanford, N.C.; Pamela R. Walter and her husband
Rex, Ellwood City; and Elizabeth M. Gregg and her
companion Tina Walker, Lakewood, Ohio. He is also survived
by seven grandchildren, Clifford J. Gregg and his wife Amanda,
Krystal J. Mabry and her husband John, Christopher E.
Walter and his wife Ashleigh, Patricia R. Walter, Thor Sacchi,
Howard F. Landon and Jesse A. Landon. Forrest was
a great-grandfather to Clifford R. and Jane I. Gregg; and
Carter R. and Nathan J. Mabry. He also leaves three brothers,
William D. Gregg and his wife Shelia, Mercer; Joseph
W. Gregg and his wife Barbara, Sharpsville; and Charles
W. Gregg, Greeley, Colo.; and two sisters, Mildred Davis,
Slippery Rock; and Margaret “Peg” Davis, Polk.
Forrest was deeply loved by several nieces, nephews,
great-nieces and great nephews, and was given dedicated
and loving care by his niece, Mellissa Filer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers,
Clifford “Kip” Gregg and twin infant brother; and a sister, Catherine I. Cooper.
